AS A passionate supporter of Help the Aged, I would like to encourage your readers to sign up to the charity's latest challenge event, Trek China 2009, which will raise vital funds for disadvantaged older people suffering from poverty, isolation and neglect in the UK and overseas.

The good news is the registration fee for this event is currently just £99, instead of £195.

Anyone over the age of 18 can take part, regardless of their fitness level or trekking experience, and will have plenty of time to work towards achieving their fundraising target.

I would encourage anyone with a sense of adventure to take up this challenge and experience the opportunity of a lifetime.

I can assure people that from my visits to China, both for work and for holiday reasons - and most recently from my time narrating the BBC's Wild China series - the chance to witness the country's breathtaking natural beauty, as well as the opportunity to see at first hand an amazing country steeped in 5,000 years of history and culture, is one not to be missed.

Trek China 2009 takes place between October 17 and 25 next year, and offers readers a fantastic opportunity to take a break from everyday life and venture into the unknown, taking in world famous landmarks such as the Great Wall of China along the way.

From the moment you register, Help the Aged will offer advice and support every step of the way, including a fundraising pack with plenty of tips and inspiration, sponsor forms and sample letters to help along the way.

For further information about Trek China 2009, contact the Help the Aged Events Team on 0207 239 1922, email events@helptheaged.org.uk or visit www.helptheaged.org.uk/events

Thank you for reading my letter.
