More than 20 people were admitted to hospital after being attacked by dogs in Hounslow last year, new figures show.

Medics treated 21 victims from the borough during 2012/13, according to figures obtained under the Freedom of Information Act by the Trinity Mirror group. That equates to 8.9 people per 100,000.

That was two more than were admitted to A&E departments after being bitten, scratched or otherwise injured by the animals during the previous year, data provided by NHS Hounslow (since replaced by the Hounslow Clinical Commissioning Group) shows.

Oxfordshire had the highest number of A&E admissions for dog attacks recorded in England during 2012/13, with 158.

Leslie Trotman, of Rowan Road, Brentford, died in January 2012, a few days after being attacked by a dog which had escaped from a neighbour's garden.
