YOUTHS who have been causing a nuisance to people in an area of Yiewsley can now be moved on after the police brought in a dispersal zone.

The area around Camomile Way, Oregano Close, Lovibonds Avenue, Frankswood Avenue and Lowdell Close is subject to a dispersal notice giving police powers to remove people from the area.

It has been issued in response to concerns from people about anti-social behaviour in the area linked to drunkenness and drug dealing.

The notice runs from 11am until 2am and will continue until November 8. During those hours, police can ask people to leave the area for up to 24 hours. If they return they can be arrested.

After 9pm, any youths under the age of 16 found in the zone without a parent or guardian will be escorted home.

Yiewsley ward councillor Dominic Gilham (Con) said he was pleased the zone had been set up.

He said: “This is a resident-led initiative as the people living in that area were suffering at the hands of a group of miscreants.

“There were reports of drug dealing and people hanging around the area at night.

“This will hopefully give them a bit of peace and gives the police the power to move on the people causing the trouble.

“The area had a dispersal zone a few years back and the problems went away, but unfortunately it appears to have crept back recently.”
