HE'S the pooch with a million dollar nose, which has helped him track down hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of drugs.

But Diesel the police sniffer dog has called it a day after eight years spent helping officers fight the capital's drugs gangs.

The nine-year-old working cocker spaniel, who has won the prestigious police award The Black Knight and the Service Dog Award, was based at the Met's west London dog centre, just outside Heathrow.

The mutt, whose work has taken him to the Olympic village, the Houses of Parliament and even Windsor Castle, ended his career in style by tracking down a large haul of drugs in Hounslow earlier this year.

His previous successes in the borough include finding a huge amount of cocaine at the Royal Albion pub, in Hibernia Road, Hounslow, in 2011.

Diesel, whose super-sensitive snout has also helped him uncover huge sums of cash and firearms, with a tennis ball his only reward, is now enjoying a life of leisure with his handler Adele Gibson.

"Diesel's been instrumental in helping the Metropolitan Police keep the public safe and help reduce crime. Now he can enjoy a well-deserved rest," she said.

But before the criminal underworld breathes a collective sigh of relief at his departure, dealers should beware there's a new dog on the scene.

Diesel's replacement Turbo, a one-year-old sprocker (springer and cocker spaniel cross-breed), has already proved his worth by tracking down a large quantity of class A drugs in Hounslow.

On July 4, he joined officers on an early morning raid at a home on the Beavers estate, in Hounslow West, where he discovered a discarded tissue containing 26 wraps of crack cocaine and heroin.

Two men were arrested on suspicion of drug dealing. One was bailed and the other was charged.

Nathan Amobi, 21, of Chinchilla Drive, Hounslow, appeared at Uxbridge Magistrates Court on July 5, charged with possession with intent to supply class A drugs. He appeared at Kingston Crown Court on Friday, July 19 and was ordered to return to the court on September 13.
