The family of an elderly man who took a tumble in Uxbridge are seeking the Good Samaritan who came to his aid – so they can thank him properly.

Known to them only as ‘Ian’, the man – in his 30s – stepped up to help 87-year-old Fred Kearvell after he fell on a shopping trip at around noon on Saturday, December 13.

His granddaughter, Lauren Springford, takes up the story.

“I was shopping in Uxbridge on the Saturday. I didn’t know my nan and granddad were in town too.

“They normally come in during the week but my nan decided she wanted to get her turkey crown on the Saturday.”

But as Fred and his wife Margie, 77, were walking past the McDonald’s restaurant in Uxbridge High Street, Fred caught his foot and went down hard, badly injuring his head and his knee.

“There was lots of blood and lots of drama,” said Lauren, “and my nan would have struggled to help [granddad] or get him up.”

Although a number of passers-by stopped to assist, one man ‘went above and beyond’, in Lauren’s words, wrapping her grandmother in his jacket, fetching chairs for the couple to sit on and even buying them a cup of tea.

“This one guy: my nan said she would not have known what to do if he had not been there.

“He managed to get granddad up off the floor and put him in a chair.

“He ensured my granddad was comfortable whilst waiting for an ambulance and fetching my nan a cup of tea and comforted her until I was able to run to where they were.”

Mr Kearvell is now recovering at home in Hillingdon.

“He is still a bit achy after the fall but he is all repaired,” said Lauren, who says she has a lot to thank ‘Ian’ for.

“He went above and beyond, definitely. I really hope we can find out who he was because we would like to say thank you properly.”
