A vicar is calling on the community to become a 'friend' of a church which desperately needs cash for its maintenance.

Two weeks ago the Gazette reported how St Mary’s Church, Church Hill, was struggling to make ends meet.

But the Reverend Martin Davies says it would be very easy to support the church which he believes is important to maintain.

“There is a simple way people can help to ensure that the historic Parish Church of St Mary the Virgin, Harefield, remains standing and is there for when you need it,” he said.

People can become a Friend of St Mary’s by giving an annual donation for the purpose of church maintenance.

“This actually provides a double benefit,” he said. “First, it will help to preserve this beautiful and historic church so that it can remain open and able to serve the local community and secondly, it works both ways.”

‘Friends’ will receive monthly copies of village magazine, the Harefield Month, and other benefits and events as they are announced. Individuals, couples or families can become a ‘friend’.

The suggested minimum annual donation is £15 or £25 for families.
