A BY-ELECTION has been called following the death of a councillor.

Labour councillor Norman Nunn Price, who represented Townfield ward, died on May 16 aged 81.

Now six candidates will battle it out for the seat.

The Labour candidate is Tony Eginton, with Kashmir Pahal for the Conservatives, and for the Liberal Democrats Roy Chamdal.

Catriona Corfield will stand for the Green Party, Andrew Cripps for the National Front and Denis MacDonald for the British National Party.

Mr Eginton, said: "I want to represent Townfield because I'm committed to the area.

"I'm a school governor at Minet Nursery and Infant School [in Avondale Drive, Hayes], I petitioned against the closure of our post office in Hayes Town.

" I've been campaigning for the area to be cleaned up and I've been involved in campaigning to save Hayes Carnival and I wish to continue working on behalf of the community.

People can vote on Thursday, July 17 between 7am and 10pm and at the Salvation Army Hall in Coldharbour lane, Hayes; at Hayes Cricket Club in Wood End; Minet Junior School in Avondale Drive; and Hayes Methodist Church Hall in Station Road.
