The sister of a 24-year-old who was stabbed to death has said she does not believe her mother will ever have closure.

The four killers of Dean Mayley, who had a mental age of nine and learning difficulties due to the brain disorder microcephaly, were jailed for up to 15 years each at the Old Bailey on Thursday (October 2).

The victim’s sister, Emma Mayley, 25, said she does not feel justice has been done.

She said: “I think their sentences should have been longer. We have the bigger sentence; to live without him everyday. They will still be able to have a life when they get out whereas Dean had his life cut short for no reason.

“They should have got 24 years. They will still be able to come out and have a family. No one deserves to play God. It’s just so difficult. Everyone else moves forward but with us, every day, it’s all we think about.

My mum, Donna Mayley, has been so strong throughout it all. I do not think she will ever have closure. It just makes you sick.”

The 25-year-old is mother to eight-year-old Callum, a four-year-old girl called Ruby, two-year-old Ian, and is 28 weeks pregnant.

Her baby boy is due on January 10, 10 days before Dean’s birthday, and the expecting mother has said she will call him Dean after his uncle.

Ms Mayley said she used to love the area but she will no longer feel safe around Greenford.

She added: “This borough has gone crazy. Since when has it become the norm for people to carry knives. I’m petrified to let my kids out. There needs to be such a crackdown if you are caught with a knife

“Callum has started seeing a psychologist who thinks we should tell him the truth because they are worried he will find out from other people.”
