A campaigner for deaf people will throw his hat into the political arena in the upcoming elections.

Asif Iqbal, president of Harrow United Deaf Club, announced on Friday last week that he will aim to use his experience in lobbying for services and awareness for disabled people in the council chamber in Harrow's Civic Centre.

He will contest the Marlborough ward when voters take to the polls in May.

"I have a wealth of experience in both the public and voluntary sector," Mr Iqbal said, "dealing with all ages from all walks of life and will support you on local issues.

"I believe in collating your local views including independent opinions, your ideas of what works well and the areas of improvements."
