A deaf paedophile who amassed more than 7,000 indecent pictures and movies of children could face up to 10 years in jail.

Matthew Chapman, of Cambridge Road, North Harrow, was in Harrow Crown Court on Tuesday to own up to 15 separate charges, after he downloaded the images between October 2007 and April this year.

The 39-year-old was brought out of the dock to face an interpreter, merely nodding to confirm his name and signing 'same again' for each guilty plea.

He first appeared in crown court back in September, where it emerged he suffered from Asperger's syndrome, hearing loss and dysphasia - the inability to speak words that come to mind.

On that occasion he pleaded guilty to 12 counts of making indecent images or movies of children, but was back on Tuesday after it emerged he faced a further 15 - many of which occurred while he was on bail.

Part of his bail conditions had been that he could not be in possession of computer equipment but within two weeks he was found to be downloading again.

In previous court appearances it emerged that the images and movies on his computer span the grading system with some rated as level five - the highest level - which can include sadism or bestiality.

According to the file names, some of the pictures and movies include children as young as three and some involve incest.

Given the severity of the pictures, the age of the children and the amount of pictures, Chapman could, according to sentencing guidelines, face anywhere up to 10 years in prison. During his first crown court appearance Judge Ronald Moss warned him: "These are serious offences and you will be facing a custodial sentence."

He is now set to find out his sentence on November 24 after Judge Patricia Dangor adjourned the case.

She said: "It will be necessary for me to see some of the images and that will be part of the reason why it will take some time."
