A sufferer of Crohn’s disease is accusing Ealing Hospital of negligence after failing to receive information about follow-up care.

Kamlesh Sehmbey, 52, was diagnosed in 2006 with the long-term condition that causes inflammation of the lining of the digestive system and can result in diarrhoea, abdominal pain, extreme tiredness, unintended weight loss and stools.

Ms Sehmbey, of Acacia Avenue in Hayes, was admitted to Ealing Hospital on November 7 and discharged on November 13.

She said when she was discharged she was told a letter had been sent out for a colonoscopy at St Mark’s hospital (an examination of the lining of the colon), however after chasing this up she was told by a secretary at Ealing that no letter had gone out.

The 52-year-old also phoned St Mark’s who have nothing in their system.

She said: “I need a colonoscopy as an emergency. It’s hurting, so they need to do something even if it’s surgery.

“I just can’t bear it anymore. I cry my eyes out. I have been in bed for two years and in and out of hospital constantly, I can’t do anything.”

A spokesperson from London North West Healthcare NHS Trust said: “We are sorry to hear about this patients’ concerns, but unfortunately we are unable to disclose any information, due to patient confidentiality, and we do not have their consent to do so.

“However, I can confirm the waiting time for all colonoscopy referrals to St Mark’s Hospital is six weeks. We would advise that if any patient is in pain they should contact their GP or call 111 for medical advice. Our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) would also be happy to help. This is a confidential service for people who would like help or advice about the services provided by any of our hospitals. They can be contacted on 0800 0641120 or 020 8967 5221.”
