MORE than 100 crews from clubs and schools around the country took to the Thames for the annual Chiswick Amateur Regatta.

Rowers of all ages raced against each other on Saturday in the 1km race between Chiswick Bridge and Kew Bridge, organised by Quintin Boat Club, which has its boathouse near Duke’s Meadows.

As rowers skulled and rowed their way to victory, spectators had access to a bar, refreshments and a picnic area.

The regatta was heavily oversubscribed so the organisers had to cut the number of crews from the 290 entries to 160 for safety reasons.

St Paul’s School, in Barnes, dominated the eights and Emanuel School, in Battersea, left their double sculls opponents in their wake in three of the six categories.
