A married bar manager repeatedly sexually assaulted a teenage girl he took a liking to after spotting her on a Metropolitan Line train and following her into Harrow town centre.

Shiv Callicharan, of Horsenden Avenue, Greenford, persistently harassed the 17 year-old girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, after he saw her on the same train heading into Harrow-on-the-Hill station.

The 32-year-old lied to the young victim by telling her he was 25-years-old when in fact at the time of the incident he was 31.

Harrow Crown Court heard Callicharan approached the victim on the Metropolitan line train and introduced himself as she left the train at Harrow-on-the-Hill Station. He followed her and on three separate occasions touched her inappropriately on her chest and groin in Clarendon Road, Harrow.

The 17 year-old went on to meet her father and at this point was crying and screaming.

The victim later told police the acts were “creepy” and she felt really uncomfortable following the incident in February 6 last year.

Callicharan was convicted by a jury of three counts of sexual assault on February 3.

Sentencing Callicharan today (Wednesday), Judge Marcia Levy, told him: “Your persistence and sustained harassment are aggravating factors. I take this very seriously, and I would think that a prison sentence would be appropriate. However I have heard from your employers who told the court you never had any problems with customers, and I accept that you are married and I have seen your wife attend court. You did continue to blame the victim, but none of this is her fault, it is your responsibility.”

Callicharan was sentenced to a three-year supervised community order and was ordered to attend a two-year community sex offender programme. He was ordered to pay £1,560, which included compensation and a victim surcharge.

Emily Culverhouse, for Callicharan, said: “He accepts the findings of the jury and is remorseful. He has a problem with boundaries, he misread what he felt were signals. He is happily married and his wife has attended most of the trial and she fully supports him in this. He is extremely sorry, and would like to assure that it will not happen again.”

In a separate incident police are looking into a complaint of a sexual assault on an H26 bus in Hounslow.
