VICTORY has been claimed in a battle to stop a defunct ex-servicemen's club turning into a hen and stag night venue.

Hundreds of residents signed a petition to stop Caesars, in High Road, Cowley, from becoming a late night drinking establishment, open till past 2am, for fears of the affect that the noise and associated behaviour would have on the residential area.

Devotees at a Hindu temple sited next door had also voiced their objections to the changes.

A licensing meeting was scheduled to go ahead on Friday at Hillingdon Council to discuss the proposals, but bowing to public pressure, the applicant decided to withdraw the application.

It is believed however, that the applicant, Umkar Sadoo, of Tudor Way, Hayes, is planning on resubmitting a revised application.
