OPPOSITION councillors have branded the Labour administration ‘scared’ after the full council meeting was cancelled for the first time in four years.

The meeting, scheduled for April 12, was cancelled as Harrow Council said there were no substantive items of business to submit to the meeting.

However, the leader of Harrow Conservatives, councillor Susan Hall said: “It’s not much of an excuse to say there’s insufficient business when council meetings still afford the public and councillors the opportunity to ask questions, present petitions, and generally communicate with the administration.

“Labour are running scared, having endured an absolute savaging from residents at cabinet last week over Wood Farm and their cuts to Admiral Nurses and social care.”

Hugh Peart, director of legal and governance services at Harrow Council said: “Officers work hard to ensure that meetings to which councillors are called are for the purposes of decision making. Time is valuable and must be used wisely.”
