Hooch was fending for himself on the streets of London before being taken to The Mayhew Animal Home. No mean feat, when you look at the size of him.

This magnificent one-year-old Dogue de Bordeaux is friendly, playful and likes to snuggle in close for love and attention.

Weighing in at 46kgs, you’ll need to be strong to take Hooch for a walk, especially because although he’s learning to walk well on the lead, he forgets his training when he sees a cat.

He also likes sitting on your lap.

Hooch is looking for an active owner who is around most of the day and is experienced with large dogs. If this could be you, see details at themayhew.org.

Would you like to spend a weekend in the country learning survival techniques? The animal charity, Blue Cross, is looking for adults who would like to spend a weekend learning skills to help them survive on their own with the minimum of provisions and equipment. Organised by Wilderness Pioneers, the Survival Challenge takes place in Oxfordshire on June 5-7. Survival techniques learnt include setting up camp, building a fire, cooking on an open fire and leaving no trace. Registration is £20 plus a minimum of £150 in sponsorship. More details from bluecross.org.uk or 01993 825567.
