Could the Hertfordshire suburb of South Oxhey become part of Hillingdon borough?

An online petition has been launched calling for the Hertfordshire suburb of South Oxhey to be made a part of the London Borough of Hillingdon.

The petition argues that the move would benefit both areas. South Oxhey, it says, would receive better transport links, while Hillingdon could use the Watford suburb's surplus land to meet housing demands.

The suggestion has been published on the website Change.org, which allows anyone to create their own petition.

So far it has received 38 signatures (correct as of 12pm on Monday, January 12). It needs 65 before it can be delivered to the author's chosen recipients: London mayor Boris Johnson; Hillingdon Council; Three Rivers District Council, South Oxhey's local authority; and the Local Government Boundary Commission for England (LGBCE), which sets constituency boundaries.

The petition reads, in full:

"Making South Oxhey part of London Borough of Hillingdon will bring huge benefits to the area and the people of South Oxhey. Firstly it will introduce bettter and new facilities to the area. Better transport to and from South Oxhey. People will want to move to South Oxhey as it would be part of Greater London. london is facing a shortage of housing and south oxhey has lots of land and housing availible for the increasing population of London. South would be know for good things and not for bad things. Businesses and companies will want to settle to south oxhey as it would be part of london and is inbetween northwood and Watford. Gosforth Lane should not have any crime and it should have more policing as it is one of the more prestigious roads in the area and other roads should have more policing to make South oxhey a safer place to live and visit. Also Three rivers district has no money to continue with the South Oxhey initiative so they cannot even do simple things in South Oxhey such as repairing potholes, this is not right and should not go on. South Oxhey needs to be heard and the people living in south Oxhey want this change so we must change it now!"

South Oxhey is a suburb of Watford in the Three Rivers district of Herfordshire.

The London Borough of Hillingdon is the second-largest of the 32 London boroughs and was formed in 1965, joining together the Hayes and Harlington Urban District, the Municipal Borough of Uxbridge, the Ruislip-Northwood Urban District and Yiewsley, and the West Drayton Urban District.
