The new mayor of Hounslow Corrina Smart was sworn in at last night's (10) borough council meeting.

She will replace the borough's youngest mayor Sachin Gupta.

Taking the role as deputy mayor will be councillor for Hanworth Park Bishnu Bahdaur Gurung.

It was also confirmed at the meeting that the new leader of Hounslow council is councillor Steve Curran, who represents the Syon ward, and will replace Jagdish Sharma, as previously speculated and revealed by getwestlondon.

Joining him as deputy leader of the new Labour borough council will be Amrit Mann who will take over from Colin Ellar, as selected by the Hounslow Labour Group who defeated the Tories in the local elections last month.

Labour won a landslide victory in the local elections, which were held on Thursday, May 22, winning 49 seats to just 11 for the Conservatives.
