‘TRY the cod, it’s the best in the borough' - should be the strap line for Ealing’s number one chippy, The Codfather.

The popular takeaway in Oldfields Circus, Northolt, has been shortlisted for Takeaway of the Year at the 25th National Fish and Chip Shop Awards.

Owner Emre Tunc has recently renovated the kitchen and all staff have undergone training to make sure they can top the list of chip shops when winners are announced in January.

It has created waves since opening four years ago with its fresh fish, clean premises and frequently changed oil, and has already been named the best taste of the sea in London.

After being shortlisted for a second year in a row, Emre has plans to expand and tap into the west London market.

He said: “We’ve done a massive push for it this year. I want to be the best in the south of England. I think we are the best, we have customers coming from Paddington, Ickenham and all the way from Hayes and Stanmore, you won’t believe it.

“I used to go to Watford before I opened the fish and chip shop. Business is going really well. I’m thinking of opening another one with a seating area as well as takeaway. I’m looking at Ealing or Chiswick, or Hillingdon or Uxbridge.”

Having grown up by the sea in Turkey, Emre knows what fresh fish tastes like and wanted to bring sustainably sourced fish to the frying market. The shop has the top five star rating for cleanliness from Ealing Council and a five star quality award from the National Federation of Fish Friers.
