TV actors Claire Sweeney and John Thomson met up with a group of Richmond residents after the matinee of September in the Rain at Richmond Theatre.

On Wednesday October 2, Bluebird Care (Richmond and Twickenham) took a group of Richmond residents to Richmond Theatre to watch Claire Sweeney and John Thomson in September in the Rain. After the show , Claire and John came out to meet the group to support Silver Sunday: a national initiative to celebrate older people and raise awareness about loneliness amongst older people.

Director of Bluebird Care, Maria Leonard, said, “We were keen to get involved with Silver Sunday because we provide care to a lot of people over 65 in our community. We understand that sometimes our care workers are the only people they see all day and they can get quite lonely. We were delighted to that Claire and John joined us after the show – it made it a day to remember."

This event follows on from Bluebird Care’s national launch of their Silver Sunday support in Westminster on Tuesday September 24, where they were joined by the Lord Mayor of Westminster, Councillor Sarah Richardson, Lady Christabel Flight, who launched Silver Sunday last year and special guests, the Chelsea Pensioners from the Royal Hospital in Chelsea.

Lady Flight, who is Westminster City Council’s Older People’s Champion said, “I am thrilled Bluebird Care has chosen to support this initiative by hosting a range of activities throughout the UK, which has raised the profile hugely.Silver Sunday is a celebration of older people and an opportunity to recognize their valuable contributions to our communities.”

Last year, there were 19 Silver Sunday events around Westminster. This year, with the focus on Silver Sunday being more of a national initiative, Bluebird Care alone held over 40 events around the UK.
