CHRISTMAS officially arrived in Shepherd's Bush as the festive lights were switched on and Elf Grotto opened at West 12 Shopping Centre.
Hundreds of shoppers enjoyed music from local singer Jessica Harman and carols sung by youngsters from St Christina's School, in St John's Wood on Thursday night.
The Shepherd's Bush Green centre opened their Santa's Secret Elf Experience outside Morrison's supermarket with a snow covered igloo where Jingle the elf lives.
Each visitor will be asked to write a letter to Father Christmas explaining what the festive season means to them and the author of the best 25 letters will be invited back to receive a personalised message from Santa.
Gavin Waller, centre manager, said: “It was a pleasure to have local artist Jessica Sharman perform at the launch of our Santa’s Secret Elf Experience as she’s such a fantastic singer.
“It was great to see our visitors getting in the mood for Christmas and I hope everyone enjoyed the entertainment.
“Shoppers made the most of the free Christmas grotto throughout the evening and children were busy writing their letters for Santa.”
All children must be accompanied by an adult. The grotto will open between 12pm and 5pm on weekdays, between 1pm and 6pm on weekends and 11am and 3pm on Christmas Eve.
Late night events will see it remain open until 8pm on December 1, 8, 15 and 22.
