Schoolchildren in Chiswick have been donated high visibility vests from Specsavers at the start of national road safety week.

The opticians is helping pupils to stay safe as the dark winter nights settle in by giving away 20 coats to pupils at Belmont Aftercare part of Belmont Primary School.

In addition, every child who goes in for a sight test this week (17-23) at the Chiswick or Feltham branch will receive a free hi-vis coat too.

Chiswick store director Irfan Akhtar said: "We want to make sure that children are safe and visible at night as winter is fast approaching.

"Since the clocks have changed and nights have got darker, we hope that by providing children with vests will help keep parents’ minds at ease when they’re escorting their children to and from school."

Specsavers is promoting national Road Safety Week, an initiative by charity Brake, which aims to prevent deaths and injuries on the roads through campaigns and funding.
