A Chiswick fraudster who raked in £15,000 in housing benefits to help him save for a mortgage has been jailed for almost a year.
Artak Aruntunan, 32, of Claremont Grove, falsely claimed the cash between May 2003 and April last year despite having £60,000 in an investment account.
But he was eventually caught by Hounslow Council's fraud investigation team and pleaded guilty to seven offences at Feltham Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Aruntunan was sentenced to 49 weeks in prison and told he must also repay his ill-gotten gains.
Council finance chief Gerald McGregor (pictured) said: "The money he claimed could have been put to better use helping others, rather than for lining his own pockets.
"He fully understood that he was committing a crime, yet only showed remorse when he knew he had been caught."
