A delegation of Chinese teachers paid a visit to Featherstone High School in Southall last week.

On Friday November 15, the school in Montague Waye hosted a visit from a group of 25 teachers from the rural province of Hubei. The visit is part of an annual event, organised by the The Schools Network, which helps the teachers learn about the English education system and explore innovation in learning.

The teachers toured the school, sat in on lessons and then had a question and answer session with sixth formers and the head teacher. Deputy Head Boy, Sultan Iqbal said: “It was a great opportunity to interact with Chinese visitors and show them around".

Health and Social Care students used verbal and non-verbal communication methods to speak to the visitors and explain what their course was all about. In small groups, they used signs and symbols and technology such as Google Translate. John Andrews, head of the Health and Social Care department at the school said: “The teachers had limited English skills, so it was incredible to see students actually teaching the teachers in on-screen Mandarin.”

Vikram Jain, head boy at Featherstone said: "It was an honour to be an ambassador for the school - it is important to learn about international relations. It is a great experience as diplomacy is what I want to go into in the future"
