Children have been treated to a newly refurbished library after parents toiled away to ensure reading is at the heart of learning.

Pupils at Queen’s Manor Primary School in Fulham were read to by Hammersmith children’s author, Lotte Moore, at the opening of the library last Friday.

Parents from the Friends of Queen’s Manor banded together to make sure it was ready in just one month so all the children can now enjoy the library and be inspired to have a love of reading from a young age.

The bespoke library is now a space where pupils can go at any time to pick up a book, or even a comic to get lost in the world of reading.

Deputy headteacher Jessica Mair, said: “Our literary co-ordinator Joe Porter helped organise it all with the parents, they were all fantastic and it’s a huge success.

“We’ve gone back to basics as we found hi-tech didn’t work to inspire children to read and have a love of reading and we think this will really help them achieve that.

“It’s more of a space to enjoy reading, we’ve de-formalised it so children feel relaxed and can have stories read to them.

“Lotte Moore was brilliant, she read to the children and told the school council about her childhood memories from the war, they were all fascinated.”

Mrs Moore added that all the pupils were amazing and were so enthusiastic about reading. “They really were fantastic children,” she said. “I was so honoured to open their new library, the school has a brilliant ethos around reading and it’s so good to see all of them so interested.”
