MEDICAL staff at the children’s ward in Northwick Park Hospital were praised for their hard work as they keep children smiling throughout the Christmas period.
Harrow Borough Commander, Chief Superintendent Dal Babu, visited Jack’s Place where toys were handed out last week, giving his support to our Toy Appeal 2012.
He said: “I have such admiration for the nurses and staff here, it is wonderful to see the dedication and hard work.”
Olympic canoeist Richard Hounslow, who was also at the hospital, added: “The staff here do a fantastic job, they are so hard working.”
One of the patients Richard met was Akshay Rukunny, 15, who was suffering from severe stomach pains.
His dad, Jeet, 42, of Tintern Way, West Harrow, said: “He has been in here for two days and we are hoping he will be out soon. Hopefully he will be better by Christmas.”
Mohammed Azim, 37, of Grant Road, Wealdstone, was concerned for his 14-month-old son Payam, who was staying in hospital after having a fit.
Mr Azim told the Observer: “It was so scary and this was the second time it had happened. It is very worrying as a parent, but hopefully he will become fighting fit and might even follow in Richard’s footsteps.”
The team of staff work tirelessly and the colourful ward is always full of laughter, especially on the day we visited.
Councillor Thaya Idaikkadar, leader of Harrow Council, said: “For many years the Harrow Observer, supported by the generosity of Harrow residents, has helped lift the spirits of sick children at Northwick Park Hospital by donating presents for them, and this year is no exception. It is heartwarming to know our residents have once again given so generously to help those in need over the festive period, and I am delighted to have been able to offer up the council’s offices to aid with the collection of the toys.”
