After being hounded by press photographers Chelsea Old Town Hall has had to issue a notice saying George Clooney is not getting married there today.

Rumours were abound today as the world’s press gathered outside Chelsea Register Office in the hope of catching the first photos of the Ocean’s 11 actor with his new bride Amal Alamuddin, who is from Kensington and Chelsea.

But rumours is where it has stayed after Dean Aaron Geoghegan, the register office’s additional superintendent registrar, posted a notice outside the famous wedding venue confirming 53-year-old Mr Clooney and his barrister fiancée are not getting married there and for the press to go away so as to not disrupt other couples.

Despite wedding banns being posted on August 6 at Chelsea Register Office stating the couple are getting married in Italy, the world's press were still hanging around this afternoon.

A wedding banns notice for George Clooney and Amal Alamudding was posted at Chelsea Register Office on August 6.

The notice outside the King’s Road venue, said: “We have assisted in the legal preliminaries for a proposed wedding for George Clooney and his fiancee.

“We do not give out details of the date or time of any wedding ceremony.

“A certificate of no impediment was applied for and has been issued as no objection was raised.

“In this case we actually have no record of when the wedding will take place as it was not necessary to ask in order to facilitate the issue of the documents.

“We are NOT conducting the wedding of Mr Clooney at this office today (Friday 12th September) and a film crew and press photographers would only cause possible disruption to other couples getting married on this day.

“So we would ask that the press do not attend.”

Chelsea Register Office has been host to numerous famous weddings over the years so its staff are used to press swarming around but for a wedding that is not happening, this is a new one.

Judy Garland, Michael Winner, actor David Niven and director Roman Polanski have all been married at the iconic register office.
