The mother of former West Ham and Chelsea footballer John Sissons has celebrated her 100th birthday.

John travelled from his home in South Africa to be with his mum Emily and sisters, Doreen Weavers and Christine Tranter, for the party on Monday last week.

Mrs Sissons was born in Lambeth but spent most of her life in Hayes. She moved to Addlestone in 1996, and to Norfolk House Nursing Home, in Weybridge, 10 years ago.

Mrs Weavers, who lives in Addlestone, said: “There were 14 members of the family at the celebration, with all the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

“She had a birthday cake made by my niece and we all had Champagne to celebrate, as well as a card from the Queen and a telegram from pensions secretary Iain Duncan Smith. She loved it.”

Mrs Sissons has eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren
