Conservative politician Greg Hands has been re-elected as Chelsea & Fulham MP.

The Tory cruised to victory as results were announced at Hammersmith Town Hall - with votes having been counted in a marque in the car park - in the early hours of Friday morning (May 8).

Mr Hands, who held a majority of 16,722 votes from 2010, again convincingly beat rivals.

He secured 25,322 votes, ahead of Labour’s Alexandra Sanderson on 9,300. Lib Dems clung on to third by 50-odd votes ahead of UKIP, with Green receiving 1,474 votes.

Speaking on the podium afterwards, Mr Hands said: “We have won well in Chelsea & Fulham, we have increased the vote in Chelsea & Fulham.

“We have won well across the country. People have shown confidence in David Cameron and the Conservatives and our long-term economic plans.

Earlier, he had told getwestlondon: “A Labour government would’ve been a disaster for west London with their class warfare proposals such as the mansion tax, and increasing business and income tax.”

Candidates soon disappeared after the announcements, with Mr Hands heading back to Conservative HQ to follow the results through the night.
