A loyal councilllor described as a maverick and a gentleman by colleagues has been made a Freeman of the Borough.

After 25 years of dedicated service, Cllr Peter de Vic Carey was presented with his Freeman of the Borough honour by Mayor Genevieve Hibbs at a council meeting on June 24.

Representing Osterley and Spring Grove, Peter was first elected in 1968 and has served continuously except for one small break.

The solicitor, of Spring Grove Road, Isleworth, said: "I became a councillor because I wanted to get involved in my local community, and I thought that this was a good way.

"My two council passions have been chairing the overview and scrutiny panel and being involved in planning committees.

"I hope I have made a difference for the better. I have always been a non-partisan councillor, and always tried to be responsible and representative."

Cllr Carey has been married to wife Mary for 49 years and has two children and three grandsons.
