A home care provider took advantage of the Saturday sun and raised cash for charity during a sponsored walk.

Carers at Carewatch Care Services, which operates in Hillingdon and Harrow, pulled on their walking boots for a five-mile stomp around Ruislip Lido.

Youngsters also hopped on their bikes to add to the total of more than £1,000 raised for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

Carewatch manager Maria Chaudry said: “We were looking after a young man who was diagnosed with motor neurone disease and he was only 34-years-old.

“We look after clients who need care for a variety of reasons, but he was really such an inspirational young person who was fighting this disease.

“Sadly he passed away last Sunday and we wanted to do something to raise some money for him, but also to raise awareness. People don’t realise that if you are diagnosed with motor neurone disease, it is terminal.”

The Motor Neurone Disease Association funds and promotes global research into motor neurone disease and provides support to people affected by it.

It was the first fundraising event the care provider had organised, but Mrs Chaudry said it would not be the last.

“I think it’s really important for us to continue raising money – the more the better,” she said.
