The Harrow Crime Prevention Panel recognises the benefits of CCTV at the public places in early detection of crimes but we are not that sure about the effectiveness of such provisions on reducing the level and fear of crime in Harrow.
We are aware that the CCTV at places like the town centre has helped in catching thieves, purse-snatchers, etc,but then the charges are often dropped because of inadequate supporting evidence either gathered or secured, for example, the forensic evidence.
Such an outcome not only has implications for the credibility of the crime-related statistical information like the 'offences committed by Harrow prisoners' but is also unhelpful in reducing the fear of crime.
