A rip-off cash machine in the heart of the town centre has been fleecing customers in the middle of their Christmas shopping.

The ATM at Tesco Metro in High Street, Uxbridge, had to be taken out of action after users complained it was short changing them.

One of them was Stephanie Gow, 19, of Victoria Road, Uxbridge, who said: "I put my card in for £100 and it gave me back no money at all. I've lost the cash and the bank said it could take longer than two weeks to sort it out.

"In the meantime I'm £100 short for Christmas. I can't afford to get all my presents. It happened to my mum three weeks ago at exactly the same cash machine - she lost £50.

"I'd call it the cash machine from hell."

The machine was still out of order yesterday (Tuesday). A Tesco spokesman said: "Our ATM team are working quickly to resolve this and sent out an engineer on Friday afternoon. In the meantime, the machine has been taken out of service.

"We advise customers who have been impacted to raise this issue with their banks in order to process a refund."
