NORTHWOOD Hills will receive a 'significant' cash injection from Hillingdon Council to regenerate the area, it has been announced.

The town is one of three, together with Hayes and Ruislip Manor, to be granted a financial boost within the next year.

Councillor David Simmonds, deputy leader of the council, told an audience gathered for the Northwood Hills Residents Association (NHRA) AGM last Wednesday evening (June 16):

"Northwood Hills is in the next wave of towns due to be refurbished.

"Having better quality roads and pavements, improving signage and parking can make a real difference.

"As a council, we are looking to support Northwood Hills with a significant investment."

It is understood that some funds will be used to improve the town's shopping facilities, including the installation of a stop and shop scheme – as reported in the Gazette in March – which is due to be in place by the end of June.

However, the council remains tight-lipped as to exactly how much money will be spent.

Mary Worrall, head of highways and green spaces at the council, said: "Hillingdon Council is looking to undertake improvements in Northwood Hills as part of its plan to invest in town centres across the borough.

"In addition, a new 'stop and shop' parking scheme will be in place by the end of June.

"As part of the general improvements, we will be looking at various traffic measures for the area including a possible zebra crossing in Joel Street in response to two resident petitions."

Chairman of the NHRA, Andrew Riley, said: "I am delighted to hear that this long overdue money is going to spent on Northwood Hills by Hillingdon Council.

"Joel Street in particular is in urgent need of a face lift and this will undoubtedly help entice sustainable businesses into the area.

"It would be good if the Chamber of Commerce, the council and NHRA, rather than simply wait for a businesses to come to Northwood Hills, work together to actively target sustainable businesses to Northwood Hills."
