I AM most concerned by Elly Jupp's letter in last week's Gazette accusing our MP of stunts and falsehoods regarding The Hayes Carnival (MP's carnival stunt was poor,Letters, July 23).
The reality is that there were plans - first published on the council website - to 'merge'the carnival with a 'cultural event' in Uxbridge.
Following the exposure of this plan by local Labour councillors, and a grass roots campaign against this by local residents, the council appeared to have backed down.
The main purpose of the leaflet to which Ms Jupp refers was to ensure that as many people as possible get involved in next year's carnival in order to make it a success.
If the Tory candidate for Hayes considers this to be alarmist, then her letter has left me feeling most alarmed.
If the carnival is so secure under the Tories, what is their problem with us encouraging more local people to support it?
Or would they prefer the carnival to die through apathy?
Just like their pathetic excuse for a campaign in the Townfield byelection?
