The trust that runs Northwick Park and St Mark's hospitals has been warned it must improve in a report by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

North West London Hospitals Trust were told that patient flow through the hospital was not good enough, and that pressures on critical care units were such that patients were often discharged too early, occasionally resulting in patients having to be readmitted.

Reacting to the report, Gareth Thomas, Labour MP for Harrow West, said: “In light of the upcoming closure of the A&E department at Central Middlesex and Ealing Hospitals, it is now urgent that the government brings forward a comprehensive plan to reduce pressure on A&E services at Northwick Park, and consider options such as extending the opening hours at the Alexandra Avenue walk-in clinic.

"The board at Northwick Park identified a need for 123 more beds in January to meet existing demand, and the government has not yet explained how they will address this increasingly critical situation.”
