FIRSTLY, may I thank you for publishing my letter on the above subject (Put the hospital on the RAF site?,Letters, September 10)?

It seems to have struck a chord, and I would ask you if you could publish a response to Mr Valentine's letter (RAF site would be too costly,Letters, September 17). I promise it would be my last one on the subject.

It does not seem that anyone is listening to the voice of the people. We are the third richest, one of the most heavily populated and one of the most taxed countries in the world, so exacty who says that a new hospital cannot be financed in the short term and paid back in the long term, when the old Hillingdon Hospital site was eventualy cleared for redevelopment?

The Goverment seems to be able to provide long term financial support to the tune of billions of pounds to mismanaged financial institutions, so why can't it provide short term financial support to build a new hospital?

Or is there more profit to be made by selling the site to developers right now?
