Police are trying to crack the mystery of a huge safe found dumped on a street in Feltham.

The 5ft tall container was retrieved by officers in early December in Green Man Lane, Feltham, where it is believed to have been sitting for some weeks beforehand.

But more than a month later no one has claimed the strongbox or reported it missing, and police remain none the wiser about its contents.

Feltham West neighbourhood sergeant Nigel Treacy today appealed for the owner of the grey, slightly rusted Tann safe, or anyone with a clue as to its origins, to get in touch.

He is also keen to hear from anyone with the expertise to crack open the cabinet, as he says the costs quoted so far to get inside have been prohibitive.

"We had a job just getting it to the police station because it's so large and weighs a tonne. It's strange no one's reported it missing after all this time and we're very keen to know what's inside," he said.
