One key topic most residents of Hounslow would probably take the chance to ask the Prime Minister about if he was stood in front of them is the subject of Heathrow and its future.

The Chronicle did just that during David Cameron’s visit to Brentford , pointing out the clear split between those who don’t want the airport to expand and those who fear the loss of 70,000 jobs if it closes.

We asked the man, who once told voters “The third runway at Heathrow is not going ahead, no ifs, no buts” what his current position on Heathrow now is.

Giving what some might call a typical politicians reply Mr Cameron said: “We have always said that on this issue we need a sensible process before making a decision. The Airports Commission led by Sir Howard Davies has been chosen to conduct that process and I am pleased that already many of the myths have been dispelled.

“Their report has shown we will need extra capacity, not now, but in the future and so the next stage is to examine where that capacity should be. The Commission is examining options at Heathrow and at Gatwick and also will look again at Boris Johnson’s Thames Estuary plan .

“I am confident we have the right people in place to carry out a strong and proper process before reaching a strong and proper conclusion.”
