An urgent call has been made for a supermarket chain to replace the former Budgens store on Bedfont High Street.

Hounslow Borough councillor for Bedfont Liz Mammatt has written to the managing directors of five chains in the hope one will come forward and put an offer on the vacant site.

Ms Mammatt decided to take matters into her own hands after residents raised concerns over the lack of a general goods store in Bedfont, since Budgens left. The vacated site has ample car parking and has been empty for about four weeks.

Cllr Mammatt, said: “Residents are distressed, not only at the recent closure of Budgens but also to see that the shop is now to let again. Bedfont needs a good general store as many people shop locally so that they, particularly the elderly, may carry home their shopping.

"This is a personal intervention, in the hope that there will be some take-up of the site as a general shop so that residents’ needs may be met and the area remain vibrant."

Any potential offers can be made through lettings agent Brasier Freeth.

Residents are said to be concerned about a dwindling number of shops within walking distance of the built-up residential area, and want improved shopping facilities in the area.
