LIKE most people who buy this newspaper, I am not a member of a political party.

I suspect, therefore, that I speak for most of your readers when I say how tiresome the constant tit-for-tat letters have become between supporters of Labour MP Virendra Sharma and Tory Councillor Gurcharan Singh.

Labour wants Cllr Singh to resign because he now sits in the council chamber for a party label that is different to the one that he was elected under.

The Tories, for their part, want Mr Sharma to resign his council seat because he has since been elected as an MP but is continuing to draw his councillor's allowance.

Surely there is a simple solution to this row. May I invite both Mr Sharma and Mr Singh to resign their council seats?

Let the people decide. This way, we will see if Cllr Singh can hold his Lady Margaret Ward in a by-election and on the same day we will also discover if Labour can retain Mr Sharma's Council seat in Norwood Green.

Can they refuse this? If either of them is afraid to do this the voters will know why.
