A GROUP of young friends dropped into Maggie's Cancer Caring Centre last week to personally hand over £140 that they raised at a bake sale.

Earlier this year, the five girls, all aged eight, held a sale on Brook Green just outside Bute House Prep School for their fellow pupils.

Having baked all the cakes themselves, they sold all the sweet treats to friends and families who were attending the school for a grandparents afternoon.

Brook Green resident Lila May was inspired to act after her grandfather Mike Weller spent time at the Charing Cross based cancer centre.

Her mother, Rachel May, said: "Both of Lila's grandparents have had cancer, but it was her grandfather who spent time at Maggie's. The cake sale was something she wanted to do, she wanted to help the centre but she didn't know how.

"When the school organised the grandparents afternoon, she thought it would be a good opportunity to raise money by selling cakes.

"The parents had very little to do, the girls all did it themselves.

"They are already talking about what the next thing could be, in fact they've mentioned a charity cycle ride."

Maggie's offers free support for anyone affected by cancer.
