A suspected burglar was arrested in the early hours of this morning after crashing into barriers on the A4 during a police chase.

Police had been pursuing an Audi A3, which was believed to have been stolen from Chiswick yesterday evening, when the car collided with traffic barriers on the A4 near Henley's roundabout, on the borders of Hounslow and Cranford.

The driver got out of the car but was arrested nearby on suspicion of burglary.

Police said he was taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service with leg injuries believed to have been sustained in the colliision.

Traffic officers are investigating the collision and the incident has been referred to the Met Police's Directorate of Professional Standards, as is mandatory.

The burglary is being investigated by Hounslow Police.

Superintendent Sally Benatar, of Hounslow Police, said: "Hounslow Police recognise the lasting impact the crime of burglary has on its victims and we are determined to arrest and prosecute offenders and take steps to prevent burglaries being committed.

"A suspect is now under investigation for the burglary of an address in Chiswick following this arrest during the early hours of this morning, when officers out on patrol on night duty spotted a vehicle being driven that had been stolen earlier in the evening."
