THOUSANDS of pounds worth of jewellery was stolen in an overnight burglary.

Hooded thieves broke into VS Foster Jeweller in Field End Road, Eastcote, on Thursday morning and stole about £10,000 worth of diamond stud earrings and silver jewellery.

The owner, Steve Foster, 56, said: "My alarm went off at 1.40am so I got a phone call from the alarm company straight away.

"The guy who lives above my shop heard the banging and crashing and he phoned the police.

"Apparently they had a car waiting round the back.

"They broke into the back of the shop by forcing the windows open.

"They had enough time in the shop to do enough damage. They smashed into the front side window and obviously I can't take everything out at night, so they took everything that was left in there. It works out at about £10,000.

'I was closed on Thursday and Friday and I was partly open on Saturday and Monday. I can't really do much because not only did they take the stock they also broke other displays and took a lot of the displays.

"They cleared the silver counter as well.

"They didn't clear the stock from the gold counter because it had a lock on it and they probably didn't have time to get into it.

"They mainly stole 18 carat and 9 carat diamond stud earrings.

"The CCTV doesn't run at night because it's too dark and they didn't leave any finger prints.

"It's a bit of a nightmare."

Mr Foster opened the shop 20 years ago and has only been robbed twice since 1990.

He said: "In October last year I had a guy who robbed me with a 10 inch knife. He came in as a customer and was asking to look at the jewellery and when I got a particular ring out he grabbed it out of my hand.

"It was a £3,000 ring and I had CCTV of it, but they still haven't managed to catch the guy."

Both the suspects are white, about 5ft 10ins and were wearing dark clothing with their faces covered by hoods.
