DOZENS more police are needed on the streets to meet a shortfall which is in danger of failing our borough, according to our council leader.
Jason Stacey believes Ealing is poorly staffed when compared with its neighbours, with around 72 fewer bobbies than most other London boroughs.
The Gazette today joins with the town hall leader in calling for more beat officers and urging readers to return the coupon on page 6 and we will forward them to Mayor Boris Johnson.
Councillor Stacey said: "I don't know what our chances will be of getting 72 new police officers, but any more resources coming into the borough would be a help.
"One of the biggest issues we have is burglary, and the police do well in trying to cut down the burglary figures.
"But if resourcing goes off towards tackling knife crime, the resources aren't there to tackle burglary because they are so stretched. We supplement it with things like PCSOs, but they're no substitute."
