BORIS Johnson unveiled a special plaque at the opening of a new library.

The Mayor of London was officially opening newly-built South Ruislip Library in Victoria Road yesterday (Tuesday).

The old library, in Victoria Road, closed in October 2010 and was demolished to make way for a building which now also houses an adult education centre complete with classrooms and workshops.

More than 2,000 new books have filled the shelves of the library, which has a Starbucks coffee area and free wi-fi service.

Library staff were set to host a special storytime for babies, toddlers and their parents at the official opening, and pupils from nearby schools took part.

Mr Johnson was joined by the leader of Hillingdon Council, Ray Puddifoot, and the Mayor of Hillingdon, councillor Michael Markham.

South Ruislip Library is open from 9.30am to 9pm, Monday to Thursday, 9.30am to 5.30pm on Fridays and 9.30am to 4pm on Saturdays.
