Today marks the start of Harrow's borough-wide public booze ban.
The alcohol exclusion zone, which came into force in 2006 and previously covered Harrow, Wealdstone and parts of South Harrow, has been widened to cover every road.
Anyone binge drinking or causing anti-social behaviour In the street can be stopped by police under the Criminal Justice and Police Act 2001 and ordered to hand over their drink or face arrest.
Signs warning of the new power have been installed on posts at the side of the road on all main routes into the borough.
Harrow Council agreed to widen the zone on July 17 following a public consultation in which 11 of the 12 letters received were in favour of the extension, with three coming from residents' associations.
One of the motivations behind the move is that both Brent and Hillingdon already have borough-wide alcohol exclusion zones, prompting fears troublemakers were being pushed into Harrow.
