A FIRE broke out in a high-rise block of flats in Hayes last night (Wednesday).
Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters were called to the blaze on the 12th floor of the block in Central Avenue, Hayes, at around 8.15pm.
The crews from Southall, Hayes, Hillingdon and Northolt fire station had the fire under control by 8.45pm but part of the flat was damaged.
The cause is under investigation.
It was a busy Bonfire Night in general for London's fire crews. The Brigade's Control Centre for the capital took over 600 calls between 6.30pm-7am with over 100 being directly related to firework incidents.
The busiest time was 7-9pm and in the total 24 hour period 950 calls were received, around 300 more than expected on an average day.
The most common incident were secondary fires - those involving refuse set alight or bonfires getting out of control.
