A DIY poster campaign in Hayes town centre aimed at preventing people putting their bin bags out early seems to be doing the trick.

The Hayes Town Business Forum decided to act after seeing the unsightly bags accumulate along Coldharbour Lane and Botwell Lane.

The posters warn traders disposing of commercial waste, and residents who live in flats above the shops, against putting their bags out days before the Friday morning collection, and that they could face an £80 fine.

David Brough, chairman of the Hayes Town Partnership, said the notices are having ‘the desired effect’.

“We are getting strong support from traders who back the need for more action to reduce litter and rubbish-dumping.

“[The bags] create a series of eyesores exactly at the time we are aiming to make Hayes a more attractive place to visit and shop.”

To keep the transformed streets tidy, the Hayes Town Partnership, with the support of Hillingdon Council, launched the Cleaner and Greener Hayes campaign.

Children from Botwell House, Dr Tripletts and Minet Junior Schools, recently led a litter-picking session.
