A weary-legged runner who took on the London Marathon in memory of his best friend said the race was “gruelling yet exciting”.

Ashley Rubenstein, of Carlton Avenue, Kenton, completed the gruelling 26.2 mile challenge on Sunday in four hours, two minutes and 44 seconds.

The 33-year-old said: “The London Marathon was the most gruelling yet exciting thing I have ever done.

“The crowds were absolutely amazing.

“I ran in aid of St Luke’s Hospice because my best friend, Becky Kennett, was cared by them in her final days and I saw at first hand the amazing work the hospice does.”

Mr Rubenstein, an insurance underwriter, raised nearly £4,000 for St Luke’s Hospice in Kenton Grange, Kenton. Ms Kennett died of cancer at the age of 31 in August last year.

Seven runners were running in the hospice’s name and between them they generated more than £17,000 in sponsorship.
